Fareham Good Neighbours, a community group that helps lift lonely people out of their loneliness by visiting them in their homes was delighted to receive a donation of £1,000 from the Fareham Well to allow them to replace their ancient “brick” phones with modern smart phones. These phones are a vital means by which people can contact us either to refer someone who might benefit from a regular visit from a befriender, or to volunteer their time as a potential visitor.
Our contact numbers have remained constant for many years and, as we know, lots of people now like to communicate by SMS text or WhatsApp. This was impossible on our old phones. Now, thanks to the Well’s donation, we can now be much more proactive in reaching out to users and volunteers – and the donation will also cover the cost of the monthly Sim Card charges while we seek longer term funding.
The Service User Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator (both volunteers themselves) have already found that it is much easier to deliver their roles – and consequently to provide a better service to lonely people in our borough. Everyone in the FGN group would like to say a big “thank you” to The Fareham Well!
